Guatemala Huehuetenango – Organic
$16.00 – $37.00
Guatemala has some of the best growing conditions and the farming region of Huehuetenango is a desired region among coffee drinkers. This coffee has a taste that’s subtle and mild, yet somewhat complex.
The region borders the Mexican Chiapas mountain range, so it’s grown at higher elevations than any other region in Guatemala. Huehuetenango coffees tend to have chocolate and citrus undertones, the highest altitude lots are the best bets for the best mouthfeel, and this one has a nice creamy mouthfeel.
Guaya’b Asociación Civil is a dedicated collective of coffee and honey producers in Jacaltenango, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Established in 1998 with just 54 producers, the association quickly earned Fair Trade and Organic certifications by 1999, solidifying its commitment to ethical and sustainable farming.
Its members come from the Popti’, Kanjobal, and Mam ethnic groups, preserving ancestral agricultural practices that honor and protect the natural environment. As a Bird Friendly® Certified cooperative, Guaya’b ensures its farms maintain rich biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, providing essential habitats for migratory songbirds while also contributing to climate resilience.
The name “Guaya’b” comes from the Mayan Popti’ language, meaning “mutual aid”—a philosophy deeply embedded in the community. Historically, their ancestors relied on cooperation rather than currency, supporting one another through shared labor and trade. Today, this same spirit drives the cooperative’s mission: fostering economic, social, and educational development while producing high-quality coffee and honey for an evolving global market.
This lot from Guaya’b is a testament to that tradition—crafted with care, sustainability, and a deep-rooted connection to the land.
