The road south out of the Great Rift Valley climbs slowly, past Shashamene and on toward Hawassa. Coffee trees start showing up along the roadside. Tall, lanky, and dusty, some so big they lean against the roofs of houses. This is Sidama. Coffee has grown wild in these hills for centuries, and today it's still tended in small garden plots by families who've farmed it for generations.

This lot comes from smallholder farmers across the Sidama Zone, grown between 1,700 and 2,300 meters in dark, mineral-rich vertisol soil. The trees are indigenous heirloom varieties, native to the region. Cherries are hand-picked from November through January, fully washed, then dried in the sun on raised beds.

Washing brings out the clarity Sidama is known for. Ripe peach and boysenberry up front, softened by chamomile, with a bright hibiscus finish. Light, clean, and floral. The kind of cup that keeps opening up as it cools.
