Coffee from Sidama Ethiopia is grown at elevations of 1,900 to 2,000 masl in the fertile highlands. This coffee embodies the vibrant terroir and deep-rooted traditions of Ethiopian coffee cultivation. The Kadela Washing Station, run by Worku Buche, sits in the Aroresa woreda, where smallholder farmers bring their carefully grown cherries to be processed with precision and expertise.
Named after the river that flows through Aroresa, Kadela is a family-owned operation, part of a larger network of washing and dry mills managed by Worku. With over two decades of experience, his work supports smallholders farming across 250+ hectares, elevating their coffee through natural, washed, honey, and anaerobic processing to bring Sidama’s finest offerings to the world.
A Taste of Sidama’s Rich Coffee Heritage
Sidama is one of Ethiopia’s most renowned coffee regions, known for its high-altitude farms and slow-growing Arabica trees that develop exceptionally complex flavors and vibrant aromatics. This region’s unique microclimate and rich soil contribute to a distinct cup profile, often characterized by floral notes, citrus brightness, and tea-like elegance.
In Ethiopia, coffee quality is graded from 1 to 9, with Grades 1 and 2 representing the highest specialty standards. Sidama’s coffees, whether natural or washed, consistently rank among Ethiopia’s finest, celebrated for their bright acidity, layered sweetness, and delicate body.
This lot from Worku Buche’s Kadela Washing Station is a reflection of Sidama’s legacy—crafted with care, honoring tradition, and bringing a taste of Ethiopia’s coffee heartland to your cup.
When tasting this coffee, blueberries were the dominant tasting note in this juicy Ethiopian along with notes of Lychee, pomegranate, and chocolate. We roast this coffee to a light-medium level to develop the deep fruity notes while slightly reducing acidity to make a smooth and flavorful coffee.
Roasting Scheduler: We roast Monday-Wednesday. Orders placed after Wednesday will be filled immediately if we have the coffee on hand. Otherwise, your order will be roasted & shipped the following week.
