This coffee comes from the Timuza Coffee Cooperative in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, representing more than 200 smallholder farmers from the Kamano tribal group near the town of Namura, southwest of Kainantu. Each family farms a small plot of land, usually around 1–1.5 hectares, growing coffee alongside food crops like sweet potato, taro, and cassava.
Coffee here is grown under strict agricultural standards using traditional and organic farming practices. Farms are shaded by casuarina and albizia trees, and producers rely on healthy soils, natural inputs, and careful cultivation rather than intensive farming methods. These strict growing practices, combined with the high elevation and rich mountain soils, help produce coffees with depth and clarity in the cup.
Harvest runs from April through September, with farmers selectively picking ripe cherries before pulping, fermenting, washing, and drying the coffee in the sun. The cooperative has worked hard over the years to improve quality and consistency, earning recognition across Papua New Guinea’s coffee sector, including a first-place finish in the country’s National Cupping Competition in 2016.
This lot is graded “A,” which refers to the larger, more uniform bean size after milling. Larger beans tend to roast more evenly and help produce a cleaner, more consistent cup.
The result is a vibrant and layered coffee with fruit-forward character balanced by cocoa sweetness and a clean finish.
